Shannon Zenk, PhD, MPH, RN
Shannon Zenk is Assistant Professor of Public Health Nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing. Zenk studies contributions of environments where people live (residential neighborhood) and spend time (activity space) to health and health disparities in multiethnic populations in Detroit and Chicago, USA. The food environment is a major focus of her work to date. Following principals of community-based participatory research, she has worked with community groups to better understand health implications of environmental inequities and identify solutions. Zenk’s training is in nursing and public health, including a PhD in health behavior and health education (2004). Since 2003, Zenk has participated annually in the International Conference on Urban Health. As a Member at Large, Zenk would give additional voice to junior urban health scholars and practitioners and seek to increase active involvement from diverse disciplines
