Candidate for President
Anthony G. Capon, MD, PhD.
Tony Capon is a public health physician with expertise in environmental health and health promotion. He is professor with the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health at The Australian National University, and convenes the national Climate Change Adaptation Research Network for Human Health. Tony is currently a Member-at-Large on the Board of the International Society for Urban Health. He also contributes to the International Council for Science’s urban health initiative and is a frequent consultant to governments, industry and international organizations, focusing on the Asia-Pacific region (particularly China, Thailand, Laos and Japan). As a former director of public health in western Sydney, he is acutely aware of the wide-ranging implications of urban environments for health and health equity. Tony’s research interests are at the nexus between urban health and sustainability. He leads a research program on urbanism, climate change and health, with particular emphasis on food and transport systems. He has held National Health and Medical Research Council and World Health Organization Fellowships, and is the nominated chair for the Australian Academy of Science’s 2010 Fenner Conference on the Environment. He is a life member of Nature and Society Forum, a community organization with the vision of healthy people on a healthy planet.
