2008 International Society for Urban Health Board Elections

Candidate for Member at Large

Danie Ompad, Ph.D.

The International Society for Urban Health (ISUH) brings together people from many settings and disciplines to improve our understanding how cities shape health, both positively and negatively. I am excited about the role ISUH can play in shaping and developing interventions to improve the health of city dwellers.  I have worked with urban populations since 1997, first in Baltimore and then in New York.  As the Associate Director of the Center for Urban Epidemiologic Studies (CUES) at the New York Academy of Medicine in New York City and an associate editor of the Journal of Urban Health, I have considerable experience in the urban health field.

Through participation in ISUH, I would like to work to continue the Society's efforts to ensure a diverse membership with respect to field/discipline, geography, nationality, race/ethnicity, gender, experience, sector, and the like.  Because cities are so complex, we can only truly succeed in improving health if a wide variety of players are at the table.
